Sustainable development, a key value in the management of Médiacité
Green roofing, waste sorting, natural lighting, rainwater collection and reuse, solar panels, etc. Year after year, project after project, many actions have been taken to reduce the centre’s eco-footprint.
From the outset, it was more than important to the property developer Wilhelm & Co. to build a shopping and leisure centre that was committed to sustainable development. Fifteen years after the laying of the foundation stone of Médiacité, its owner, CBRE Global Investors, together with the Gesmall management team, continues to work in this direction.
Organised collections
In direct collaboration with Récupel, Bebat and the non-profit organisation Les Amis des Aveugles, Médiacité collects plastic caps and used batteries and light bulbs. Visit our Info & Services area to leave your donation and contribute to a better world.
Beehives & bees on the roofs
In May 2021, the latest project to come to fruition, 4 beehives have been installed on the green roof of the centre for the next two years. At present, no less than 200,000 bees are foraging for pollen on the flowers within a radius of 3 km of Médiacité.
Burbee’s beekeepers will be there day to day to take care of the facilities and to collect the honey produced.

2,778 photovoltaic panels
9,000 m² covered with panels for even greener energy!
In 2017, the project was launched with the aim of producing its own green energy. The challenge was considerable, but after more than two years of planning and several months of work, 2,778 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roofs of the shopping centre.
These panels power the centre in an environmentally friendly way and reduce CO2 emissions by 309 tonnes per year, the equivalent of 2,490,000 km driven by a diesel car. At the beginning of 2017, the project was launched! Médiacité’s objective: to produce its own green energy. It was a major challenge, but after more than two years of planning and several months of work, 2,778 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roofs of the gallery.
